Non Smoker Quitter64 – Withdrawal Symptoms are Just Normal

This post was submitted in our article The Side Effects of Quitting Smoking (source article) and it was published as a regular post, many thanks for this wonderful experience Quitter64.

Age 34 had been a smoker since I was 13.

Oh man you guys don’t know how happy I am to see that what I’m feeling now is normal. I’m on day 4 of quitting cold turkey after a hospital stay. I refused the nicotine patches they offered while I was in and figured what the heck. I’m done.

I went to the ER after day 2 because I was feeling randomly light headed. My chest would have these sudden surge feelings and my pulse would go crazy. I know now that this is anxiety and I cannot wait for this to pass. A few other side effects that I’ve been having since I quit [smoking]. I hope if I write it here someone may have a little peace of mind.

Really strange indigestion feeling. A pressure almost like a burp that is stuck in my throat directly under my Adam’s apple. Some slight neck pressure and tightness. A few chest pains followed directly by lightheadedness. And most of all anxiety.

It seems like I’ve become a serious pulse and pressure and pain watcher. Since I quit it’s almost like I’m waiting for something to happen and when it does, it freaks me out. I guess now that I see I’m not the only one dealing with these crazy withdrawal symptoms I may just sleep a little better tonight. Thx all and Stay with it. I can’t imagine starting up again knowing all the crazy stuff we go through just to quit. And seeing that it eventually will get better makes me almost cry folks. I’m so happy I found this forum. 🙂

Wonderful experience, thank you for sharing it. Everything is quite normal and eventually you will live again the life of a non-smoker after 2 – 3 weeks totally free!

Wow I am wondering if this is my problem also, But it took 3 months for this to happen to me so I really dont know what is going on with my body, I had a surgery in April and decided after 28 years of smoking to quit, well I landed in the emergency room 3 months later with what they are saying is anxiety attacks, I am usually a very strong person so I cant figure out why this is happening to me, I am on pills and only take them when needed, so I am praying that this is going to go away, it seems to always get me at night time.
Well I was glad to have read what you were dealing with so I can try to be stronger and say to myself, this will get better. No cigarette for 5 months!!!

Michelle, I used to suffer from them too. Been on several different meds. None worked or they left me too screwed up to function normally. Try this. The next time a panic attack sets in get totally angry. Angry as hell for what ever reason you want. Invent one if you have to. True anger will override fear every time. Worked for me and a couple others I know. I hope it works for you. Now wish me luck. I think it’s time to quit. I know I can do it.
